PROGRAM NOTES
‘Pelago’ is short for archipelago. This first movement (being performed today) depicts a tropical island through its environmental cycles at various times of day. This piece started as an experiment with instrumental color, during which I chose the palette of clarinet, percussion, and strings. Each instrument group has both lyrical and percussive qualities, which are explored in various combinations.
