PROGRAM NOTES
‘Carried Away’
is a piece that is playful with an underlying emotional tug. There are three melodies heard throughout. The most prominent melody is the first descending line in the violins, which is emulated in the cellos, and soon continued by the second violins. A pizzicato section emerges, with the character of a “whimsical dandelion forest” as noted in the score, introducing the second melody along with a new accompanimental figure. The character and shape of the gestures combine, creating the third melody before returning to the opening material.
